Check out the service-learning projects that we are doing here at Saddle Rock! (More to come...)
Second Grade: This year the second grade students will partner with an organization called Birthday Wishes for the third year in a row. The organization brings birthday parties to homeless children in shelters across Long Island. Children get to feel special and experience the joy of celebrating their birthday.
This year a representative from Birthday Wishes will visit Saddle Rock’s second grade classes. They will show them how to create a Birthday-In-A-Box with birthday related party supplies, goody bags and gifts to donate to the Birthday Wishes Organization. Students will create birthday cards for each child.
Fourth Grade: The fourth graders have already started their service-learning project for the 2015-2016 school year! In November the students went to Steppingstone Park and planted tulip bulbs. In the spring, they hope to visit Steppingstone Park and see the tulips in bloom. The fourth graders enjoyed helping their community by making a local park beautiful. This was our fourth year working with the Great Neck Park District. We look forward to continuing this great work!
